The widespread use of UNIX as an application development platform makes it imperative that developers have a good understanding of the components which comprise the environment as well as being able to use those components. This hands-on course is focused at providing an accelerated approach to understanding this complex environment. Throughout, topics are consolidated by extensive use of the material within a UNIX environment. Course Description This course aims to provide participants with a basic understanding of the UNIX operating system as well as the tools necessary for navigating and managing various aspects of this environment. Course booklets and hands-on activities allow each student to actively interact with the UNIX Command Interpreter for file management, text editing, producing short scripts and customizing their work environment. Audience This course is designed for those with a working knowledge of computer basics such as operating system concepts. Programming experience is helpful, but not mandatory.
