Course Description This course can be used as a follow-on course to the COBOL Fundamentals course, or as a refresher for developers who would like some additional training surrounding specific topics. The major topics include table and transaction processing - both topics are introduced in the Fundamentals course but are reviewed in more detail here - using VSAM files, COBOL Sorts, and Subprograms. This is set up primarily as a laboratory course, thus each of these areas is discussed in detail and a relevant, hands-on programming exercise is provided to reinforce the concepts and provide actual experience implementing the technique. Additional topics include the effective use of REDEFINES, reference modification, and nested programs among others. Objectives Upon completion of this course, students should be proficient in developing moderately complex COBOL applications utilizing the COBOL features discussed. Audience This course is intended for those who have some experience with COBOL but would like additional background using more advanced techniques. Prerequisites Prior development experience using COBOL.
