Fundamentals of the relational model and concepts surrounding developing applications and databases within this model are the focus for this course. The objective is to provide attendees with the core knowledge and concepts surrounding this major development technology. Course Description Relational database management systems currently constitute the most widely-used mechanism for storing business information within the industry. This important fundamental technology provides businesses with a flexible environment within which to store, retrieve, and process the data associated with the core systems they use. From its inception of the relational model over twenty-five years ago, to today, it has grown into a major core technology within many organizations. Understanding the relational model, and how its implementation may affect business systems, is of paramount importance. As the relational database management systems currently available continue to grow in their performance profiles, as well as their capabilities, this technology will continue to be an important core competency for organizations. Audience This course is designed for anyone who desires an introduction into the concepts of relational databases, which may include business managers, students, and professionals who are participating in a company move to a relational database product. Objectives This one-day course discusses the fundamentals of relational technology, applying it through discussions about the major relational database management systems available today. The mechanisms for storing, retrieving, and processing data within the relational model are discussed, along with an introduction to the Structured Query Language (SQL), and discussion on some of the physical aspects of relational database management systems. Prerequisites None.
